Julaba Kunda

With their homeplaces three thousand miles apart, but with a whole lot of common ground to share, Gris Sanderson and Juldeh Camara aka Julaba Kunda step forward onto the world music stage to create a unique and vibrant sonic experience, where the West African riti, a one-stringed fiddle of ancient design, meets its European sisters, the bowed stringed instruments of the violin family and the Swedish nyckelharpa. This extraordinary new musical encounter brings us snaking Fula trance melodies from the Sahel’s nomadic herdsmen joining tumbling strathspeys & reels from Scottish crofts & dancehalls, creating powerful, accessible and very danceable soundtracks. Onstage, and throughout their recent debut CD Traders (Waulk 4) release, Juldeh and Gris evoke older styles and boldly touch on new territories, but most of all their playing echoes with the voices, cries, laughter & dancing footsteps that resonate from the longtime oral traditions of their people., vibrant roots music from two real visionaries on the current world/traditional music scene.
